Description

Product Description

It Takes Two to Talk gives parents the tools to make early language intervention a natural, ongoing part of everyday life with their child. New checklists and goal charts in the first chapter make it easier for parents and professionals to identify the child''s stage of communication and choose the most appropriate interaction and communication goals right from the start. With a heightened focus on helping children initiate, take turns in enjoyable, extended interactions and increase their expressive language skills, the It Takes Two to Talk guidebook shows parents how to use responsive interaction strategies that increase children''s language skills. Written in simple language and beautifully illustrated, this guidebook shows parents how to integrate It Takes Two to Talk strategies into everyday routines like mealtime, bath, time, play, time and book reading.

Review

The Hanen Centre has, once again, done a terrific job of making the information in this newest edition of It Takes Two to Talk accessible to families and professionals, who can rely on the fact that the intervention
strategies are based on years of research that support their usefulness in promoting improved communication skills in children with language delays. --Cynthia Cress, Ph.D., CCC-SLP - Associate Professor of Communication Disorders University of Nebraska-Lincoln

This book provided me peace of mind and guided me on how to properly use all the tactics to help my child. After thirty minutes of reading this book, I started putting the information read into effect. My three year old said a new word in those first thirty minutes. This book has not only helped my child, but it has also helped me as a parent to have patience and to understand that my child will talk at her own pace. I had many fears, and this book has helped me to understand how to deal with them and help my child with her speech. Thank you!!!!

Best book ever for parents of late talking kids. Absolute must read for every parent dealing with this issue. Very down to earth the most helpful book from all ( and I think I read every book available on the subject ) Very common sense advice and technics described, so simple and so efficient , truly helped me and my Son. Just watch and "listen" what child is "telling" you , even without words amazing how much they "tell" us if we are willing to "hear" them. I wish i read this book first before newly created histeria books about possible this and that without any practical advice. Some kids just speak later then others and that''s it.

Overpriced for only a little more than common sense
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021
There are some great ideas here and I think are useful.
There is also a ton of common sense Ideas, which we were already doing.

The low rating is mainly for value for money. This book is not worth $50-$60!
It should be priced at $20-$30.

The page number don''t match with the Kindle version, as they said it does. xiii is actually page 14, NOT a page in the preface as the roman numerals suggest. It''s really annoying, as the book references pages in other sections quite often, and not having the number match up makes it nearly impossible to find what they''re referencing.

I only settled for the Kindle version because the listing said that the page numbers matched with the print copy of the book. Upset I didn''t spring for the physical copy now.

Two of my three children are late talkers (two brilliant children with apparently not much interest in talking). I wish I had knowledge about this book a couple of years ago. This text together with Prof. Camarata''s studies has been a light in the darkness. You''ll learn better strategies to deal with your children, to enjoy even more the time spent together, and to understand more appropriately their dynamics in order to protect them from hasty judgements by relatives, friends, pre-school/school staff, etc.
Definitely, a must have for all parents of late talking children.

I have a few of the Hanen books and have found all of them very useful. As a parent of their first child who is a late talker, I found this book invaluable. It''s written succinctly, with good explanations and tips. It has been great in our helping improving our child''s social and verbal capabilities. The visuals are helpful to break up the text and to demonstrate the point they are making.

This book gave great advice for helping your little one talk. It also made me understand what I was doing wrong abs what I could do better to support her talking. It also made me more confident in dealing with my little ones development. Highly recommend.

I wish I’d bought the book as the kindle version is exceptionally difficult to read (it’s just like a scanned version of the book & not easy to expand or autofit to phone size) and I don’t think I can get a refund as per usual I’ve taken ages to start the book! I’m really annoyed as it looks really good and it’s not cheap on kindle either. If there is anyway of swapping from Kindle to the book I’d massively appreciate it.

We bought it to use along with a speech therapist as our toddler was an extremely late talker (started combining two words at 3 years and 2 months). This book has been amazing in helping us adjust our own behavior that helped our toddler advancing in speech extremely fast. It was life changing at the time when we felt scared and lost, while a lot of "experts" were diagnosing our toddler as autistic. Amazing book.

This book isn''t so much incorrect as it is incredibly badly written. It provides information very slowly and the repetition is incredibly obnoxious. I assume it is done in this way to cast a large net... you could have quite a low reading comprehension and follow along, I guess. But it''s bloated with fluff points and it doesn''t set out clear systems to deal with problems. It''s vague. For something priced like a textbook, I expect a lot of in-depth information and a ton of sources. This is... some nice ideas and very few references or data points to back anything up. I honestly think these are probably nice people trying to do good work... but this isn''t a professional level of advice or writing. It''s... 101 stuff.
