ORTHOPAEDIC SPORTS MEDICINE & TRAUMA FELLOWSHIP
Vijaya Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics (VITO) is a super specialty institute which aims to provide world-class treatment for various orthopaedic disorders and sports injuries.
It was established in the year 1999. Since its inception Vijaya Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics has an impressive track record in providing and managing a wide range of Orthopaedics and Trauma conditions.
The Institute takes care of Trauma patients by providing round-the-clock emergency services. The Orthopaedic services includes: joint replacement surgeries (Knee replacement, Hip replacement), arthroscopy, spinal surgery and Orthopaedic Oncology (Bone Tumours).
Drawing on the expertise of skilled orthopedic sports medicine surgeons, athletic trainers and physical therapists, we work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan for each patient from the initial assessment through rehabilitation and recovery. VITO surgeons specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of all athletic injuries, while offering special expertise in reconstructive surgery and arthroscopic surgery. The fellowship emphasizes hands-on training in a high-volume setting, focusing on special procedures:
Pre-habilitation and rehabilitation, providing patients with instruction on how to avoid injuries, rehabilitation methods, and safe, effective ways to return to their sports.
- Knee surgery, including ligament repairs and cartilage transplantation
- Shoulder surgery, including arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery, labral repairs and surgery to correct shoulder instability
- Injuries to a thrower’s shoulder and elbow
- Complex surgeries, including revision surgery for failed knee and shoulder surgeries
Educational goals and Characteristics
The fellowship encompasses all aspects of clinical involvement in Orthopaedics surgery which includes exposure to polytrauma management / Arthroscopy including assessment of new patients, surgical treatment at assistant level (with level of responsibility dependent on the proficiency demonstrated), post-operative care and rehabilitation. Fellows will be actively involved in regular clinical and scientific meetings, and will be expected to produce at least one research project suitable for presentation at an international meeting and subsequent publication. The weekly schedule will usually involve daily surgical assistance in the operating theatre and reviewing patients in clinics on rotation and one session in allocated research projects.
The applicant must:
- Be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of India.
- Have completed their training in Orthopaedic Surgery with atleast 1 years post MS/DNB experience.
- Have evidence of research experience, including evidence of relevant published research.

The selection process is purely merit based in which all the applicants for the fellowship program will be called for an interview which will be conducted on 1st week of July and 1st week of January for the respective batches. The successful applicants will be informed thereafter through email. It is compulsory for the candidates to bring with them a proposal and protocol for research projects in field of arthroscopy when coming for interview.
